Fried Oyster Mushrooms
I love making fried oyster mushrooms. This recipe is for vegans and meat eaters a like. Generally, people like fried chicken because it’s well seasoned and well, fried. This fried oyster mushroom is perfectly, crispy, deliciously seasoned, and so addicting.
Marinate:
1/2 pound oyster mushrooms
1 1/2 tbsp chicken less seasoning
1 tsp onion salt
1/2 tbsp garlic powder
1/2 tbsp onion powder
1/2 tbsp smoked paprika
1 tsp black pepper
1 1/2 cup plant based milk
Dry Batter Mixture:
1 1/2 cup all purpose flour
1 tbsp smoked paprika
1 tbsp salt
1/2 cup of grape seed oil for frying
Place the mushrooms, chicken less seasoning, onion salt, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, black pepper, and plant based milk in a bowl. Set aside and allow it to marinate for a least 2 hours. The mushrooms will reduce in size in the marinate. Stir occasionally to be sure all of the mushrooms are covered in marinate.
Add grape seed oil to a cast iron skillet set on medium heat.
In a plastic zip bag place the flour, paprika and salt.
Add the marinated mushrooms to the flour mixture in the plastic bag one mushroom at a time. Coat the mushroom well with the flour, then place the flour coated mushroom in the skillet of hot oil. Continue to add the mushrooms to the skillet, be sure not to over crowd the pan. Brown mushrooms on both sides, then remove from skillet and place on paper towel to absorb the excess oil.
Enjoy
*Note: I purchase my chicken less seasoning from Trader Joes, but any vegan chicken seasoning will do.
*I used oat milk for my plant based milk.
