Spelt Fried Dumplings
These crispy and perfectly soft Fried Dumplings are the perfect comfort food. Jamaican Fried Dumplings are a popular food that can be eaten for breakfast lunch and dinner. I decided to step away from the traditional all purpose flour used to make Jamaican dumplings and use spelt flour. Iām glad I did. With a few added ingredients and a slight twist to the original recipe, these came out great. Soft and fluffy on the inside crispy on the outside. This recipe is the perfect alternative for a healthier lifestyle.
2 cups spelt flour
2 tbsp baking powder
1/4 cup nutritional yeast
1 tsp salt
1/4 cup coconut milk full fat
1/4 cup cold sparkling mineral spring water
grapeseed oil for frying
On medium heat in a skillet add grapeseed oil.
In a mixing bowl add flour, baking powder, nutritional yeast, and salt. Stir dry ingredients to combine. Add coconut milk and stir, slowly add the sparkling water a little at a time and mix with a spoon. The mixture should still be a little dry, use your hands to combine mixture into a ball of dough. Pull a piece of dough about 2 inches in size and use the palms of your hand, moving in a circular motion to create a ball. Use your knuckle to create a dent in the center of the ball and place the dumpling in the hot oil. The center dent helps to cook the dumplings evenly. continue with the rest of the dumplings. Brown the dumplings on both sides and remove from hot oil.
Enjoy!
Makes approximately 7 to 8 dumplings.
