Crispy Fried Tofu

Crispy Fried Tofu

I love, love, crispy fried tofu. It’s tasty and delicious and full of crispy goodness.

I use quick and simple ingredients to create this recipe. Be sure to allow the tofu to press for at least a half an hour if not longer. You want to make sure most of the water have been pulled from the tofu to get it to its crispiest. To press your tofu simply remove tofu from its package, wrap tofu in a kitchen towel and place the tofu package upside down on a plate. Place the wrapped tofu on top of the upside down tofu package. Take heavy object and place it on top. I use my cast iron skillet.

1 package firm tofu pressed sliced (about 10 pieces)

Garlic powder

Onion powder

2 tbsp cornstarch

1/3 cup panko bread crumbs

1/2 tbsp all purpose seasoning

Hoisin sauce

3 tbsp grapeseed oil

On a cutting board lay tofu on its flat side, sprinkle onion powder and garlic powder on both sides enough to cover the tofu, set aside. Allow the tofu to sit in the onion and garlic seasoning for at least 10 minutes. In a bowl add the cornstarch, panko breadcrumbs, and all purpose seasoning stir with a whisk to combine.

Heat the grapeseed oil in a skillet (cast iron for best results).

Take the seasoned tofu and place one at a time in the breadcrumbs mixture. Press the tofu firmly into the breadcrumbs and cornstarch mixture on both sides. Place the breaded tofu into the heated skillet. Allow to brown on both sides. Remove cooked tofu from the skillet and place on paper towel to absorb some of the oil.

Drizzle Hoisin sauce on fried tofu.

Garnish with chopped green onions

You can serve this delicious crispy tofu for dinner, over a salad or in a wrap for a delicious satisfying lunch.

Enjoy
